Radioactive Waste Management .Important key in Nuclear Energy Production
Nuclear Energy – 30 Years After ChernobylKyiv, April 20th 2016.

BackgroundTreatment of radioactive waste into acceptable forms for storage or disposal is mandatory for waste producers. Waste from operating nuclear facilities and/or D&D activities is produced in various forms (e.g., liquid, solid, gas) and thus requires different treatment to transfer it into acceptable waste forms. Processes to reduce volume and prevent secondary waste generation are favorable to reduce overall cost.

Waste management concerns the characterization, treatment, conditioning, handling, transport and disposal of the primary and consequential waste streams.
Characterization of wastes Treatment and conditioning of liquid wastes Treatment and conditioning of solid wastes Treatment and conditioning of gaseous and aerosol wastes Packaging of wastes Transport of wastes The disposal of wastes Re-use of decontaminated materials

Usually the specifications are imposed by the operator of the disposal facility, according to safe assessment of the repository, approved by the Authorities
Mechanical characteristics Durability Handling Transportability aspects Confinement properties
Characterization of RadWaste
Usually the producer are responsible for the activity declaration package by package using the values of the nuclides of easy measurement, Co-60 & Cs-137, and the nuclides of difficult to measure and significant in terms of safety assessment of are calculated through scaling factors related to the easy nuclides
Different levels of characterization are used depending of the specific activityDifferent requirements must be probed, as
