Silent night, holy night! All is calm, all is bright.Round you Virgin, Mother and child,Holy Infant so tender and mild,Sleep in heavenly peace. Silent night, holy night! Shepherds quake at the sight. Glory streams from Heaven afar. Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia Christ the Saviour is born, Christ the Saviour is born.Silent night, holy night!Son of God, Love’s pure light.Radiant beams from Thy holy face,With the dawn of redeeming grace,Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth,Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth.

Colours of Christmas
Colours of Christmas
The colours most closely
associated with the Christmas season are: red, white and
green. Some say that this is because of
the red and green plants of
wintertime contrasting with the
white snow.
Red
means love and reflects our warmth and
love for each other. It is also the colour that is
considered the greatest excitement. As a religious symbol it
stands for fire, blood, and charity.
Green
means hope and the eternal longing for spring and all the promises of the future. Green is the symbol of
nature, youth, and the hope of
eternal life.
White
means purity and is represented by the crystalline form of water and the snowflake.
White is the religious symbol which stands for light, purity, joy and glory.

Facts
Saturnalia was adopted by the Roman Christians and
became Christmas, celebrated on the 25th of December.
The Romans celebrated
Saturnalia in honor of the god Saturn.
It was supposed to be the period of chaos between the old and the new year when the normal rules of society could be ignored. People drank a lot, went wild and gave presents to each other.
The name
‘Santa Claus’ comes
from the Dutch Sinter Klaus,
short for Sinter Nikolaus
or Saint Nicolas.
According to a survey, 7 out of 10 British
dogs get Christmas gifts from their loving owners.
Scientists say
that Christmas trees are
edible. The needles are a good
source of vitamin C.
In the USA, Christmas trees are now
called ‘Holiday trees’
The Christmas
tree originated in
Germany
in the 16 th century.
It was usually
decorated with
apples.
Christmas day lasts172,800 seconds. Santa Claus would need to travel at 2,058 kilometres per second to reach
all the places in the world during that time.
About 2 million tones of Christmas
presents are given at Christmas
The well known image of Santa Claus was invented
by Coca-Cola.
The Spanish and the Portuguese introduced the Christmas
tree to Latin America, but unfortunately there are no fir trees
there, so what do you think they decorate?
The Christmas cactus of course!
An internet site for Santa Claus was set up in
1997
In 1995, in Canada, Santa Claus was given his own postcode - HOHOHO

•Candy cane sweet treats made primarily from boiled sugar seem to have first appeared in Europe in the late 1600’s to early 1700’s. They were made in many different colors (most often white) and shapes (most often straight sticks), evolving to the familiar cane or upside down J shape with the red and white stripes in the early 1900’s.
