2019 Annual Bishop’s Appeal

May 11/12

The 2019 Bishop’s Appeal will be held on the weekend of May

11/12. This is our opportunity to unite together as one Catholic

family, to answer the challenge given to us by Jesus Christ to

feed the hungry, clothe the naked, comfort the afflicted, and to

promote justice for every person. In these next two weeks,

please take the time to prayerfully reflect on the gifts that you

have been given by God and respond to the Bishop’s Appeal

as generously as you possibly can.

Your participation is essential to the success of the Bishop’s

Appeal. Please join other Catholics from throughout the

fourteen counties of the diocese in supporting this very import

collection.

WELCOME

It was with great joy that

our parish community

welcomed four adults into

full communion with the

Catholic Church at our

Easter Vigil service:

MATTHEW ROSS

SCOTT ROBERTS

DIANE HONSE

VANESSA O'BRIEN

God invited each of them to

take this journey of faith that

led to the Easter

Sacraments. We, as

members of St. Mary's

Parish, pledge them our

prayers and our support.

A special thanks goes to St. Mary's Parishioners who

make up our RCIA team: Joyce Richards, Bruce

Richards, Tracy Hanlon, Jane McGinn and Kyla

Loucks.

Each week, these adults share their faith, time and gifts

with inquirers who have expressed interest in joining the

Catholic Church. Their devotion to inviting people into a

relationship with Jesus is the basis for the Rite of Christian

Initiation of Adults.

Hospitality is vital to the life of a parish community.

Kathy Catman and Beverly Valenti provide wonderful

refreshments each year for the celebration after the Easter

Vigil. This year was no exception! Thank you both so

much.

~Sister Nancy

Giovanni Mancini, Ada Quinn, and

Carlo Rindenello received the

Sacrament of Baptism in April. May

these children and their families receive

God’s Blessing as they begin their

spiritual journey together.

We pray for our recently deceased

parishioners and friends:

Patricia Munier, Margaret Curtis,

and Chester Kolinoski

May they and all our departed loved ones, friends,

relatives, and parishioners enjoy forever the

brightness of the eternal light.

The Book of Ruth

Friday, May 3rd at 6:30 PM

in the St. Mary’s School

Auditorium

The Book of Ruth, is a triumphant love story in the

face of adversity. This is a selfless journey of love and

devotion as seen through the eyes of a young widow.

Choosing to leave her homeland of Moab, she follows

her mother-in-law Naomi to Israel after the death of her

husband. Upon reaching Bethlehem she meets and

marries a man named Boaz, who is of the Royal house

of Judah. This chain of seemingly unrelated events sets

the stage for future kings of the nation of Israel, and the

coming of the Messiah.

Snacks will be served at Intermission.

For more information on this event, please contact

Ann McCauley at 518--885-7411.

One of the greatest acts of charity is to pray for the living and the

dead, and the greatest and most powerful prayer we have is the Mass.

Available dates are posted in the rear corridor on the wall. Mass

intention forms are available there as well.

Faith Formation

What is the difference between an Apostle

and a Disciple of Jesus?

A Disciple is a follower of Jesus; one who was actively learning what

Jesus preached. The 12 Apostles were chosen by Jesus to be His

messengers in spreading His Truth. The Bishops of our Catholic

Church continue this role today.

The word Apostle means "The one sent." This normally refers to the

12 men chosen by Jesus to be the bearers of his teachings to the

world. They are:

Simon, renamed Peter

Andrew

Bartholomew

James the Greater

James the Lesser

John

Judas Iscariot

Matthew

Matthias - was chosen to fill the place of Judas

Philip

Simon the Zealot

Thaddeus
