2) Presidential Address
Hi everyone,
To begin, I first want to thank you all for attending the WCSA AGM. Your attendance
makes it possible to conduct essential orders of business of the association, such as
ratifying audited financial statements and approving the minutes from the previous AGM.
I believe that the 2013-2014 term of the WCSA BoD has been a very successful one, and
has a left a strong legacy for Woodsworth College for years to come. To begin with, in
the sense of traditional events, we began the academic year last September with the
largest Orientation Week in the college’s history, seeing over 750 students involved in
many different capacities. We also held many of the traditional social and athletic events
this term such as the red party, streetcar pubcrawl and the wonderland trip; two raptors
games, a blue jays game and a Superbowl party. Additionally, anyone who has spent any
time in Kruger Hall this year will have come across our weekly WCSA pancake
Wednesdays, courtesy of the off-campus portfolio. The Are You Woodsworthy
leadership conference, too, happened this year, and helped Woodsworthians develop their
leadership skills. And last, but certainly not least, we have our annual awards gala coming
up on the 21st of this month at the Westin Harbor Castle, which is shaping up to be one of
the best galas yet!
However, I would also like to acknowledge several new events and initiatives as of this
year. For example, the full-time students’ portfolio hosted a cooking competition right
here in this very room last month, and the community outreach portfolio held the first
ever zombie charity walk, which brings awareness to the heart and stroke foundation.
Also, the full-time and upper-year portfolios are hosting a resume and CV workshop this
Wednesday here in the Waters Lounge as well. WCSA’s Woodsworth residence director
also planned a reading week initiative for students who were still in the GTA: a skating
trip to Nathan Phillips Square.
WCSA has also seen an increased amount of collaboration this year at the university wide
level. Myself and the VP External of the Association have been attending the student
societies’ summit since last October, in which we have been discussing student
governance and representation with many other student societies across campus. The
summit has yielded some productive discussion on best democratic practices at our
University. I have also been attending monthly St. George Roundtable Meetings in which
I have keeping in the loop about the happenings of other student societies. This has led to
collaborations on events such as our Movember Club night (in which we partnered with
Innis).
In regards to policy, I believe that the WCSA BoD this term has also been very active.
Back in August, we passed a document called the community guidelines, which outlines
the rules for a safe and positive space at all WCSA meetings, events and initiatives. Later

on last year, we also as a board ratified a policy on absenteeism and the non-performance
of duties, which keeps us all, as elected student leaders, more accountable to the student
population. All of these policies were drafted and recommended by the Policy Review
Committee, which also spent time editing and updating the Association’s hiring and
election policies. Additionally, the PR portfolio also created a document called the PR
request form, which streamlines our efforts to promote WCSA events and services. And
last month, we also formalized an awards policy for the BoD, to be used at our annual
awards gala. Lastly, the 2013-2014 BoD has proposed some constitutional amendments,
to be approved and discussed by everyone in attendance here.
I would like to conclude my address today by first thanking each and everyone of the 27
WCSA Board of Directors. I can confidently say that because of your hard work,
dedication and resolve that the 2013-2014 WCSA term has been extraordinarily
successful. You should all be extremely proud. I would also to thank the college
administration for providing us with endless advice and support throughout the year. And
lastly, I would like to thank all the students at the college. After all, it is you guys who
keep the Association moving, by attending our events, and using our services.
Thank you all very much, and have a great rest of the year!
