Community Catalyst 2011 Our Guiding Philosophy of Change: Systems of Advocacy Usually, no one organization can move an issue You need people coming together to advocate In an advocacy system, the complementary capacities of different organizations are knit together to create a coherent whole. Advocacy is a shared task, with each participant bringing its skills to the table. Community Catalyst 2011 System of Advocacy 2013 Areas of Focus ACA Implementation Medicaid expansion, benchmark benefits Marketplace development, operation Outreach and enrollment Hospital accountability Care for the uninsured Dual eligible demonstrations Substance use disorders and parity Addressing these in all the areas above 2012 Beyond ACA Medicaid managed care including long- term services and supports Prescription drug access and quality Dental therapists Public health and social determinants Reducing costs and improving quality Health equity in all areas 2012 2013 Initiatives on Older Adults Dual Eligible Demonstration Projects 2012 Our Voices for Better Health Project Goals Embed consumer engagement Minimize risks of managed care for consumers Maximize community-based services Better quality of life for participants More efficient system helps avoid harmful spending cuts 2013 Focus on Five States 2013 Behavioral Health in the Demonstrations All of the demonstrations so far include behavioral health We are examining benefits and care coordination mechanisms Massachusetts coalition includes mental health consumer organizations Other coalitions would welcome partners 2012 Long-Term Services and Supports Improve LTSS in Medicaid managed care o Duals demonstrations and Medicaid alone Promote new opportunities for enhancing home and community-based services Advocate for integration with other care Ensure recovery supports are included 2012 Putting Consumers First: Promising Practices for Medicaid Managed Long-Term Services and Supports A Seat at the Table: Consumer Engagement Strategies Essential to the Success of State Dual Eligible Demonstration Projects Checklist: How Consumer-Focused Are Your States Medicaid Managed Long-Term Services and Supports?
