PREMIER LEAGUE: WHO WILL WIN ENGLAND’S NATIONAL LEAGUE?

By Holly Trimby

At the top of the English football leagues since its foundation in 1992, the Premier League, or known as the Premiership, is the country’s primary football competition that includes only the men’s teams. Every season, 20 teams maximum who have been promoted to the league based upon their performances the previ-ous year compete for the chance of winning the Premier League title. As well as having a chance at the English title, teams may also be relegated down to lower football leagues if their performance declines dramatically. A season runs from the months of August to May every year with each team playing 38 matches that include playing each other twice at their own home stadium as well as their opponent’s away stadium. Overall, there are 380 matches played in a whole season. League games take over during the weekends, teams playing one match each over the Saturday or Sunday period.

The Premier League is the most watched league in the entire world, broadcasting to 643 million homes in the United Kingdom and a potential 4.7 billion people worldwide. With Chelsea being the current champi-ons of the 16-17 Premiership season, tensions are high on if they’ll be able to repeat their performance from last year to remain the champions or hand the title to another team.

As it now stands, the top five teams in the league this season start with Man City holding the number one place with 31 points. With not a single loss this season so far, Man City stands with the record of ten out of eleven games played won with one tied game against Everton.

At the second place spot is Man United, a club that holds the record for the most Premiership league titles won ever with 13 cups, thus far has achieved 23 points. The team’s performance currently holds with 7 wins out the eleven games played, tying in two games and losing twice to Chelsea and Huddersfield.

The team tying with Man United for the second place but holding third on goal difference in the league is Tottenham Hotspurs, a team who has never won the league title in history but has managed to finish

in the top five teams for the past three seasons also holds 23 points. Throughout eleven games in total, the team has won seven games, tied one and lost four games to teams such as Chelsea, Man United and West Ham.

In number four, the previous league champions Chelsea weigh in so far at 22 points. With six wins and five losses, the team’s performance is to say the least has declined considering their winning title earlier this year. With the team’s manager Antonio Conte being under investigation by the club’s owner over a relationship rift with his players, this comes into play with their performance after their last manager, Jose Mourinho, left the club to manage Man United back in 2015 after the team’s performance dropped dramatically in the table over disputes of the players wanting a new manager.

In the fifth spot in the league is Liverpool F.C, sitting at a total of 19 points. Their results thus far in the competition stand at four wins, four ties and three losses against Man City, Leicester and Tottenham Hotspurs. Tying for the fifth place with Liverpool, being separated by only goal difference, is Arsenal. Though the team has more wins and ties over Liverpool, coming to six wins and one tied game so far, their losses are higher at four losing games against Liverpool themselves following Watford, Man City and Stoke.

While these teams are the ranking on the top of the leaderboard, three teams in the league are at risk of being relegated down into a lower league. In the 18th place, West Ham scrappes at the edge of the relegation zone with six losses and only one win. The club has suffered enough causing the manager, Slaven Bilic, sacked and to be replaced with new manager David Moyes. The next spot below them is Swansea City, losing their seven out of nine games played. Swansea’s fans have been heavily divided over the club, their last loss against Brighton in the 0-1 defeat left fans fighting in the East Stand of the Liberty stadium. At the bottom of the entire table and left in 20th place is Crystal Palace, having lost 10 games except for their unbelievable 2-1 win against Chelsea.

With Manchester City’s eleven margin lead over Man United, it’s extremely likely that Man City will take the win in the Premiership. However, the battle for the second, third and fourth places are still a tight race for all the teams mentioned. But time can only tell, we’re not even halfway through the season yet.

LA LIGA: WILL REAL MADRID REMAIN THE CROWNING

CHAMPIONS?

By Harry Butcher The Primera División, or most commonly known as La Liga, is the top professional football division of the Spanish football league as a whole. Founded back in 1929 in Spain, the league is made up for 20 teams in total like the Premiership in the United Kingdom. The teams in the bottom three spaces of the table are at risk to be relegated into the lower league, known as Segunda League. The top two teams who come up in that league advance into La Liga.

With a total of 60 teams participating in the league since its foundation, only nine out of that group has able to achieve the league title in that time. La Liga is one of the most popular football leagues in the world, with the league ranked as the best in Europe over the past five seasons. With an average attendance of over 25,000 people for its league matches as calculated from the previous season, this only backing up their popularity in numbers. The clubs involved in the league, including teams like Real Madrid, have won the most trophies ever in competitions such as Champions, Europa, Super Cup, World Cup and more. On top of that, players involved in this league such as Lionel Messi and Christano Ronaldo, have won the most Ballon d’Or awards promoted by Fifa every year. The current reigning champions are Real Madrid, who have won the title an astounding 33 times, more than any other team in the history of the league.

This is the league table for the Spanish La Liga after week 10 of football. Barcelona are top of the league, clear by 4 points after beating Athletico Bilbao 2-0. Real Madrid are sat surprisingly in 3rd place after taking a heavy 2-1 loss to Girona. That is their second defeat this season and looks hard to catch up to Barce-lona now. Alaves are sat bottom of the league with only 3 points and have lost 5 of their last 6 games.

Holly was only five when she obtained her passion for football and from being from north London my family was naturally be arsenal fans they always you used to go see Thierry Henry play and it was amazing it was like he was untouchable he inspired her so inspiring that she decides to take up football as a career. Un-fortunately, on day she said that in in front of the whole class and they laughed at and she thought to herself would show that girls are just as good as boys.

Watching the male leagues only satisfied her enjoyment of the sport but watching the women leagues is what inspired her to go into football full-time. Once moving back from America, her first move in the Eng-land was to start professionally playing. After moves to multiple teams in Premiership, she’s now started with her dream to play for England worldwide. Now she gives back to the community by giving both young adults males and females her age that share the same passion as she does to try out for a chance to be trained by professionals, this will give them a chance to get signed by good clubs as they all get a fair chance to show their chance to make into the big leagues.

She said that the grinding was hard to get where she needed to be and the payoff for all her hard was amazing that’s why she is pushing both genders to peruse football but more so females because she wants to show that football isn’t just for male groups anymore she doesn’t want anyone to tell she can’t run, dance or sing and it is because of that rebellious nature is why she is here.

Since Harry was young he has always supported Manchester City and was a dream come true when they had picked him and chose to sign him. He plays mainly as a left winger but can play any position in the top 3 from Striker to right wing.

He has always had a passion for Football, growing up in two separate houses he had to commute every week to stay with his father and mother. He had played football ever since he was 3 and loved the game ever since.

He is currently 19, born in Homerton raised in Stoke Newington. He idolised players like Sergio Aguero, Thierry Henry and Lionel Messi ever since he was young, these are the players he looks up to most and aspires to be like and enjoys watching Harry Potter. Shortly moving from England to Wales, he began the trip to making it up into the big leagues. From a sunday football club to the national Wales team, you can say Harry achieved his goal of working up the leagues.

He said, “Football is not just a passion but a lifestyle. I sleep, eat and breathe football. Even if it’s not my game on the weekend, I’m always in the stadium playing. As a young player, you’re not given many chances to play in the big league games. You have to push yourself the extra mile to excell your skills and work on your offense and defense.

UEFA’S CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: ENGLISH TEAMS NARROWING THE

POINT GAPS

By Joshane Howell

The champion’s league is a football European competition. Only the top 4 teams in the European countries get to play in the champion’s league. The top two teams in the champions league groups get to go to the knockout rounds of the competition. And the team who finish third go in the UEFA Europa league. The champions league is the biggest football competition in the world. It is week four the Uefa champions league, it got off to a great start. In-group A Manchester United defeated Benfica 2-0 after beating them 1-0 in the reversed fixture last week. Other game in-group A was FC Basel vs. Cska Moscow. This match finished 2-1 to CSKA Moscow. So this means that the group standings show that Manchester United are at the top of the table with 12points and only need 1point to advance to the next round. FC Basel and CSKA Moscow are level on points with 6points. And Benfica is out of the competi-tion with yet to score any points on the board.

Manchester United was awarded two penalties. They missed one and converted the second to make the game 2-0. Manchester United was in complete control over this came and were deserved victors in this match.

In the FC Basel vs. CSKA Moscow game it was an end-to-end game with both teams having chances to win the game. In the end CSKA took their chances well, and they are now level on points with FC Basel.

In Group B PSG hosted an Anderlecht side that haven’t put a point on the board in this year’s cham-pion’s league. PSG were very comfortable in this game winning convincingly 5-0 on the night when it could really of been 6 or 7-0. PSG are perfect in the group yet to drop any points.

The other group in Group B saw Celtic entertain Bayern Munich at Celtic park. On the night Bayern was victors but it wasn’t and easy night for them Celtic put up a good fight to win them game but came just short of winning. Both teams had chances to win because it was an open game but in the end Bayern’s quality
