Grammar comment 17-1Some verbs end with the suffix -овать/евать. To

conjugate them, replace -ова- with у then add first declension endings:

Use the Instrumental case:

1. after the verbs заниматься (to engage in)

2. интересоваться (to be interested in)

3. as well as after the preposition c (with).

Instrumental CaseMasculine/Neuter ending: -ОМ/-ЕМ

Feminine ending: -ОЙ/-ЕЙ

Мы любим обедать с бабушкой.

We like to eat lunch with grandmother.

She is interested in chemistry.

Instrumental Case - feminine nouns – that end in –ь)!

Feminine nouns that end in a soft sign (ь) take the ending (-ью).

Remember the stem change in the nouns мать and дочь!

мать - матерью

дочь – дочерью

ночь – ночью

осень – осенью
