Welcome from all of us at Double T Simmentals. It is our pleasure to welcome you to our 8th annual bull and female sale. We are grateful for your interest in our breeding program.

We are extremely excited about our 2017 sale offering. Year after year we search the country for new and fresh genetics that will offer your program beneficial qualities. This group represents the best cattle we have ever offered. We strive each year to enhance the overall genetics offering to our customers. We work hard to offer as much information as possible to our customers, to make your decisions easier and more informed. All the bulls have been tested for being homo polled along with all black bulls tested for coat color. Black bulls with be indicated by a BB for homo black and BR for hetero black. Homo polled with be indicated by PP and hetero polled by HP. All the red bulls are diluter free. Which means, if used on black cows, no worries of producing a grey calf. Year-ling weights, Hip height and scrotal score will be provided sale day. We elect to wait till sale day to provide this information as each individual needs to be a minimum of 330 days of age for it to calculate into a contemporary group. The longer we wait, the more benefit the data provides for us and ultimately you.

Our philosophy is simple, “Profitability”. At the end of the day, the only thing that matters is the bottom line. We strive to breed, raise and sell cattle that are profitable for ourselves and ultimately in the end your operation. API and TI are indexes that are expressed in dollars and cents values. Through mathe-matical calculations that not only consider the value of outputs (weaning weight or yearling weights) they calculate the cost of inputs (expenses from feed cost, mature cow size, milking ability and others). In the end, this gives a dollar evaluation of the individual’s value. If you intend to retain heifers within your operation, make decisions using API. If you sell all females and do not intend to retain any females in the herd, make deci-sions using the TI index.

Auction: We will be conducting a video auction. The bulls will not go through the sale ring as in most sales. We will have all the lots on video. Videos of the bulls will be played as each lot sells. Bulls will be available to view at any time prior to sale day. For those who view prior to sale day, we will credit you $50 on a purchase of a bull.

Terms and conditions: All cattle sell under terms and conditions of the American Simmental Association and will be available on request the day of sale.

Risk: Double T Simmentals will not be responsible for any lost or stolen items or liable for any personal injury.

Guarantee: Bulls are guaranteed as breeders; if failing to be satisfac-tory, they must be reported to us by August 1 2017. Our goal is for each and every customer to be satisfied; if not we will work with each individu-al to resolve any issues.

Wintering: Bulls will be semen tested the end of March or early April. When the bulls have completed breeding soundness exam we will begin delivering. Bulls being winter here will be charged a fee of $180 per head at time of purchase; which includes feeding, semen testing, delivery and insurance for 6 months.

Herd Health: Calves were all vaccinated with 7 way, Bovishield Gold 5, and One Shot in the spring and fall. Bulls will receive 2 shots of Fusogard prior to April. Open Heifers will receive spring vaccination of Bovishield 5 VL5 prior to sale date. Bred females with have been vaccinated with 2 shots of Scour Guard 4KC along with Virashield VL5 HB.

The demand for Simmental influenced cattle is growing and stronger than any time before. Cattlemen across the country are looking to the Simmental breed to improve growth, maternal traits, and overall red meat yield. With the trend of increasing car-cass weights and demand for higher quality grading cattle, Sim-mentals have the traits to help you increase profit and demand. Leonard was born February 13, 1937 in Turtle Lake, ND to Ferdinand & Marie (Seidler) Klain. He attended rural school and graduated from Turtle Lake High School in 1955. Following high school, he worked for Fetzer Electric in Bismarck until pur-chasing his farmstead in 1958.

Leonard married Shirley Schilling on Sept. 20, 1958 at Peace Lutheran Church in Turtle Lake. They made their home on the farm north of town where they worked side by side for many years. Leonard worked for Boeing Construction in Garrison during the winter months until starting his own farm and cattle operation. Leonard held a true passion for owning, breeding, and selling top quality cattle. He started his herd with Holstein and Hereford cows, eventually ending up with a large herd of Registered Simmental cattle. His first cattle production sale was in 1982 and the sale continues today. He and Shirley were blessed with three children (Durnell, Tam, & Sue) and were long time members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Turtle Lake.

Leonard enjoyed playing cards, pool, and touring the countryside looking at fields and cattle. He was an avid sports fan, who rarely missed his children and grand-children’s athletic events, cattle shows, and horse shows. He would often offer his “words of wisdom” to whomever would listen.

Leonard and Shirley retired from the farm and moved into town in 2009. They enjoyed their garden and cooking together. The coffee pot was always on for visits from family and friends. A true farmer, Leonard’s thoughts were always on the farm-ing & ranching operation.

He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley of Turtle Lake; son, Durnell (Darcy) Klain of Ruso, and their children Tyler, Dalyce (fiancé Adam), & Trey Klain; daughter, Tam (Tim) Clark of Turtle Lake, and their children Jessie (Michael) Martin, Kayla (Shane) Swanson, & Jordan Reis; daughter, Sue (Bret) Jevning of Brainerd, MN, and their chil-dren Mari (fiancé Cameron) & Allen Jevning; three great-granchildren, Bridger, Bryce, & Baylen; two sisters, Elsie & Jeannie; & two brothers, Albert & Eddie Klain.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, and three sisters (Edith, Ruth, & Hilda).
